FAQ:A1104 What are the system requirements for running Vinsight Winery Software

Excerpt Outlines Vinsight minimum hardware requirements.

Minimum System Requirements:

Vinsight requires Windows 98 second edition operating software or higher. At a bare minimum you will need a Pentium 200 with 40 MB of RAM and it performs sufficiently well when you are not trying to do too many things simultaneously. There may be performance problems on a slower machine and may not run with less RAM. The only considerations above these basic specifications are your own comfort. So if you are currently looking at upgrading anyway then we would recommend it as it makes the whole experience more enjoyable.
The truth is that if you are looking to upgrade your computer then the most basic entry level machine available on the market today will be more than addequate.
Future upgrades of Vinsight are going to require at least Windows 2000 to function.
Vinsight will run over a network. Find-out more: How to setup Vinsight to run over a network?

FAQ:A1105 Can Vinsight be run over a network?

Excerpt The quick answer is yes. The following article discusses some of the issues about installing and running Vinsight on a network.
Vinsight is a client/server application in that the database for Vinsight can reside on one computer and can be accessed from another. The client still does all the processing but the amount of data passed to the client for larger updates is restricted therefore limiting the amount of network traffic.
The Vinsight application can be installed on any network workstation that has network access to the Vinsight Database and then the application is simply pointed and connected to that database across the network. The default Vinsight Licence Agreement allows for two users to be connected to the Vinsight Database but more users can be licensed.

Location of the Vinsight Database

We recommend that rather than having the Vinsight Database located on a dedicated server, you locate the database on the machine that will be doing the bulk of the updating of winemaking records as this is the machine that will need to deal with by far the largest amount of data so will speed processing of that information. Most of the other functions of Vinsight involve reporting functions involving less data or simpler updating.

FAQ:A1107 What features does Vinsight have in the Winery?

Excerpt
Vinsight records all fruit parcels coming into the winery and all the treatments, additions, operations and analyses that relate to the wine made. The use of Vinsight is designed to facilitate more time making wine and less time keeping records about it. There is a graphical representation of your tanks and winery that gives you a quick reference to information on tank contents. Wine composition and breakdown gives you exact information on which blocks and batches make up the blend with which additives. From the quality point of view you are able to easily see the history of how you made that award winning wine or look at different winemaking treatments in a trial. FAQ:A1108 What features does Vinsight have for the Vineyard?

Excerpt
Currently Vinsight allows you to track maturity data on many vineyards and blocks within vineyards and store information on blocks such as varieties and clones. Vinsight then follows the fruit off these blocks into the winery allowing you to identify which blocks end up in which finished wines. The Vineyard side of the software is being expanded with the eventual aim to have crop prediction, Met Data, Soil Analyses and Vineyard operations all incorporated into the information database in future upgrades.

FAQ:A1109 Who develops and supports Vinsight?

Excerpt
Vinsight is developed and supported by users of the system from within the wine industry. Vinsight is not an accounting package nor was it developed by computer programmers locked away in small rooms. The system is developed in conjunction with winemakers that have used the system and are continuing to suggest developments and improvements.
The interface is graphical and should be familiar for those of you who have used any standard office software, there are many of the same keys strokes and functions as most windows programs.
